Oval-Shaped Faces

The oval-shaped face is one of the simplest to dress and style hair for; I know, I have one! There are two kinds, however. One type has a shorter forehead with which one need not have bangs or tendrils; instead, this is the one facial shape that looks good with the peeled onion look—a style I still am not brave enough to try! This face shape looks great in a high ponytail, in stylish updos, and can be very sexy with hair parted down the middle or side flowing in the wind!

The second type involves a slightly higher hairline or, what we call, a long forehead. It is key that you shore of the distance with a pretty swoop of hair from one side of your face to the other. Although I do not have a high forehead, this is a style that just looks beautiful and can either involve a shiny lock of hair or have a feathered look if you’ve textured your hair with mousse! You can also use a curling iron to affect either tight or loose ringlets that frame your face. Make certain they spring from several points along the hairline at the top of your face as well as down the sides closer to your ears. This gives any face shape a softer, more feminine look!

Just a note, as your face is longer, do your best to add volume to your hair, which will widen the overall look. This can be done through curling your hair or moussing up your perm! I personally, even when wearing my hair pulled back, do not slick it with gel. I like a soft, fullness on the sides so it adds a bit of dimension to my face!

Flattering Choices:

Add a poof, hair bump, or updo with curls on top to elongate your face pleasingly.

Show off the neckline wiht cowl neck sweaters or knits, square or scoop neck shirts, and even V-necks layered with lacy tank tops!

Frame your face with curled or even whispy straight tendrils.  This will make you appear more feminine and gives your face a softer look!  But, honestly, your face will look beautiful with slicked hair too!  This is the only face shape that works with the onion look!

DO part your hair in the middle from time to time!  Super cute!

Less Flattering Choices:

If you have thin hair and like to wear it down, make certain your ears do not stick through; better to thicken it with mousse!

Ponytails high up on the side of your head or pigtails are for children; if you want something on the side, try a low chignon at the nape of your neck or just to the side of it!  Very elegant!

Condition your hair!  You might even apply some 'Shine' spray to make it shimmer!
