Another Apostolic Fashion Update!
Layering is a wonderful tool but so is color! Often, we get so bound to basic neutrals such as black, gray, brown, and tan that we neglect many other beautiful hues that look good on us!
I remember when I was about fourteen, the camp meeting I attended had a neat little class where they held different colors of material up next to your face. The other girls would give you feedback on what colors favored you and I left with a list that I still have! Of course, the list is more of a memory for me now than a guide, but what a neat exercise!
As long as the outfit is modest, don’t be afraid to step out on a limb!
My mother has always had a soft spot for shades of yellow, and, I must say, it can be very becoming! Black, white and yellow or simply yellow with black can be very chic as these young ladies can attest!
Notice that these two young ladies have experimented with yellow. The one on the left layered a gold dress over a black shirt and skirt, a very neat and beautiful look! The other used a black bolero jacket to accent!
Always balance a wild new color with a basic. The ladies in this post balanced their yellow with black. Using navy as a neutral, you can always mix in a touch of yellow, green, or red. One of my favorites is using brown as my neutral with a mix of emerald green! Of course, you’ll find I’m a green-a-holic!
Think contrast. Don’t choose colors that are too close in the color wheel; they won’t stand out. At the same time, don’t choose absolute, shocking opposites either, such as yellow and purple–unless you really know what you’re doing! Some exceptions might be combining red with hot pink; the clash is complimentary!
Always choose clothing cuts that flatter your body. Everyone is made differently, which means we can’t all look right in the same cut of dress or color. Find clothing that looks good on your body and you’ll feel and look better! Choosing an outfit because it is the latest trend can get us into trouble with the fashion police!
Furthermore, you can use your clothing as a tool to hide the little imperfections we all have. For instance, my hips are uneven due to a horseback riding incident; rather than wearing tighter skirts, I always make certain they are full enough to fall straight down from the edge of the hip rather than curving around it! Clothing is a wonderful tool for hiding flaws and highlighting your best features so take careful consideration when dressing! Be your best! Everyone has flaws but we don’t have to bare them for all to see!
Finally, accessorize! You’ve heard the saying, ‘The devil is in the details!’ That means it takes effort to be detailed! Just remember, that the class is in the details too! Despite today’s popular hodgepodge, grunge look, a woman who carefully matches her hair scarf, her purse, her shoes, and the elements of her outfit still stands out!

If you look organized and well put together, they automatically assume you are an organized, confident, in-charge person. Those with a sloppy appearance are viewed as having low confidence, inability to prioritize, and difficulty coping with day-to-day pressures.
Believe me, I used to teach interviewing skills for college students; I’ve spoken with countless employers. While we certainly take precautions in how we look for job interviews, aren’t the ambassadors of God always on stage? What do we say about ourselves by just walking into a room? It matters, believe me! It makes a difference in how people treat you and in how credible they think you are when you speak when you have the right appearance.
Trench coats were rarely seen in pastel until recent years, but the combination is quite elegant! To spice it up, don’t forget a beautiful hairband or flower. You are a woman—look like it!
